Syracuse Region Service and Celebration

The Syracuse Region of the Order of Malta maintained a busy schedule this past Advent and Christmas.

On November 21 local Knights and Dames, along with several of their grandchildren served over 700 pancakes to around 250 adults and children at Assumption Parish Center.  This is a monthly event held from September to May.

The following day, members held a Thanksgiving Dinner for approximately 55 residents of Malta House in North Syracuse.  This is an annual event very much enjoyed by the residents.

Our annual Christmas Mass and dinner were held on the evening of December 9th with Bishop Robert Cunningham of the Diocese of Syracuse, our chaplain, celebrating Mass at the chapel of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, followed by dinner at the Century Club.

On December 19th we hosted our Christmas pancake breakfast at Assumption Parish Center.  The breakfast is coordinated with a distribution of Christmas toys and a visit by Santa.  In quite literal “service to the poor,” Knights and Dames personally served the meals to more than 250 people at their tables.
