Atlanta Region Gala Results in $95,000 Gift

Presentation of Check. Life is Beautiful Gala Co-Chair, Kim Hanna, D.M., and Regional Hospitaller, Lynn Mullaney, D.M.,  present a check for $95,000 Pregnancy Aid Clinic Director, Alix Shattuck

Record cold temperatures, record crowds, and record funds raised, were the order of the evening of February 19 when the Sovereign Order of Malta Federal Association Atlanta Region sponsored the Life is Beautiful Gala to benefit the Pregnancy Aid Clinic in Hapeville, Georgia. Special guest Archbishop Wilton Gregory offered the blessing and set the theme for the evening of “Choose Life”, which appropriately was the focus of that day’s gospel reading.

Msgr. Edward J. Dillon, Magistral Chaplain of the Order, was joined by Knights, Dames, and Auxiliary who served as the host committee, including co-chairs Kimberly Hanna, and Angie Lewis, committee members Mary Savarese, Terry Hartman, Marilyn Allegra, Jackie Bohling, candidate, Diane Festa, and Gigi Meyers, master of ceremonies Butch Elmgren, and Atlanta Hospitaller Lynn Mullaney.  Many friends also joined to show their support for the mission of the clinic to offer pregnant women the option to choose life for their unborn children. Other special guests included Alix Shattuck, clinic director, and Laura Grumbling, clinic operations manager, and board members Aaron Bartlone, Julie Ostrowski, and Warren Stoughton.

On site that night was the Pregnancy Aid Clinic’s 29-foot traveling ultrasound unit, which was made possible by funds raised from two prior galas. The mobile unit moves among multiple locations throughout metro Atlanta during the week and on Saturdays, providing lifesaving and life-changing services.

At a follow-up Malta reception of April 22, Gala Co-Chair Kim Hanna, and Regional Hospitaller Lynn Mullaney presented clinic representatives with a check for $95,000 from the gala proceeds. Clinic Director Alix Shattuck was overwhelmed by the donation, saying the amount would enable the clinic to assist many more women facing the decision of an unwanted pregnancy.

Approximately $300,000 has been raised in support of the clinic over the past three years of Malta hosting this gala. The Atlanta Region is honored and humbled to fulfill their mission as Knights and Dames “to care for the sick and poor and defend the faith” through this signature event.
