Sponsorship

Sponsorship

  • Applicants must be sponsored by two of the Knights or Dames of the Federal Association.
  • The sponsor and applicant should discuss the criteria for admission before requesting an application. It is also the sponsor's responsibility to be sure the applicant satisfies the criteria for admission as well as the requirements of membership: the formation program, financial obligations, and participation in spiritual activities and service projects.
  • Both sponsors must submit a letter testifying to their personal knowledge of the applicant's qualifications for membership in the Order of Malta. A similar letter of recommendation is also required from the applicant's pastor.
  • Every applicant must meet with their Regional Hospitaller before submitting the application to the Admissions Committee. This meeting will allow the applicant to become acquainted with the spiritual activities and volunteer projects within their region. Every application must be signed by the Regional Hospitaller.
  • At least one sponsor must attend the Day of Formation held in April of the year preceding investiture. Both must agree to participate in the applicant's year of formation. Sponsors will submit a written evaluation of the candidate's year of formation.
  • A Knight or Dame may sponsor only three (3) applicants per year. Sponsors cannot be related to the applicant, nor can the applicants be related to one another.
  • Chaplains and candidates-in-formation are not eligible to sponsor a candidate.
  • A husband and wife are not premitted to seek membership in the same year.
