Hospitaller Region - Memphis
Memphis is one of the newest regions for the Federal Association. As of October 2009 there are seven Knights and Dames. In 2009 Bishop J. Terry Steib was invested as a Conventual Chaplain ad honorem, and Rev. John Hourican was named an Associate Chaplain.
The Memphis Region has focused heavily on Defending the Faith by partnering with the Diocese of Memphis to produce a weekly radio program, called “The Catholic Café.” Each thirty minute radio show discusses a different topic of Catholic Doctrine, including topics such as Mary, the Eucharist, Purgatory, Sacramental Confession, etc., with a goal of educating non-Catholics and fallen-away Catholics as to Catholic teaching. The shows invite listeners to access our website at www.thecatholiccafe.com , where all past shows are stored and other links are provided to Catholic resources. The show is nationally syndicated, and broadcasts on Relevant Radio Stations throughout the Country every Sunday.
Members of the Order (and their families) who are interested in participating in one of these activities should contact the Regional Hospitaller. The phone/fax number is available in Federal Association Directory.
- Members of the Order and volunteers prepare and serve dinner to homeless families at the Missionaries of Charity Shelter in Memphis on the second Thursday of each month. Denes Bardos is in charge of organizing volunteers for this outreach.

The Mass is followed by breakfast and a regional Malta meeting in the hospital board room. At the monthly meetings, members and candidates make various presentations pertaining to the Catholic Faith or the history and spirituality of the Order of Malta.
All members of the Order (and their families) are most cordially invited to participate in these spiritual activities.
- The Bishop annually celebrates mass for the Order on the Feast of St. John the Baptist at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Memphis, which is followed by a dinner honoring our volunteers and malades.
- The Memphis Region is organizing and hosting a week-long mission for Hispanics in poorer parishes, which will be conducted in January 2010. Four friars from the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal will lead the mission
